GAMRIC: Design for new global antimicrobial resistance conference in Washington DC

The World Health Organization (WHO), together with six American and European partners, is launching a global conference to combat the rise of antimicrobial resistance: The Global AMR Innovators Conference, or GAMRIC, will kick off on 30 September in Washington, DC. Scholtysik developed the logo and brand identity.

The international conference is dedicated to fighting the global rise of resistant bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites, also known as antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The UN and WHO have identified increasing resistance to previously reliable therapies as one of the top ten threats to global health. GAMRIC will focus on medical innovation and close collaboration between academic and commercial research.

The organisers are CARB-X (Biopharmaceutical Accelerator, Boston), GARDP (Global Antibiotic Research & Development, Geneva), ESCMID (European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectiology, Basel), LifeArc (Life Science NPO, London), BEAM Alliance (European Industry Alliance, Lyon), AMR Solutions (News Hub, Manchester and Houston) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Scholtysik developed the new conference brand in close collaboration with the organisers. The logo is created from a movement of individual graphic elements that overlap and ultimately come together to form a multi-layered, multi-coloured hexagon. The hexagon is not only reminiscent of the representation of chemical formulae, but is also a common symbol for an ecosystem, in this case that of resistance researchers in universities, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies worldwide.

The cool, abstract aesthetic signifies its affiliation with the medical and biopharmaceutical sectors and underscores its scientific credentials. At the same time, it maintains equidistance from the seven co-organisers and does not allow itself to be appropriated by any side.
